"There were nauseous musical instruments, stringed, brass, and wood-wind, on which St. John and I sometimes produced dissonances of exquisite morbidity and cacodaemoniacal ghastliness ..." H.P. Lovecraft, The Hound
Abraxas is an Outsider and serves the the Black Hand as one of the Voices of Hell. Despite his mysterious nature - apparently inherent in his kind - he is open, gregarious, and easily the most vociferous of his fellows, with the exception of Lucifer himself. A poet and a musician, Abraxas has invented many strange musical instrument and styles. His music is dissonant and deeply upsetting even to demons. It can drive and has driven humans to suicide and worse acts. He is calm and rational and serious about making a positive contribution to the governance of Hell. Abraxas descended from the Outer Dark when war began in Heaven. He waited, hovering over the abyss, and met Lucifer's cabal there to help them begin to rebuild. Helpful and mild though he is, Abraxas is a singularly twisted individual. His devotion is implacable, but it is focused completely on the cause of chaos. He wields a poleaxe in battle, and his symbols are the cardinal, the doorway, and the willow.
